The Lochgelly Band Pictured in 1890
This is the earliest surviving photograph of the band. Unfortunately little is known about this photograph or the people in it. As can be seen little has changed in brass band instrumentation from the early days. There are still three trombones, three horns and what look like three euphonium/baritones along the back row. The middle row is taken up with a rank of cornets with the basses and percussion along the front. Interestingly the average age of the band appears to be quite young but note the lack of female members.
